I absolutely loved this graphic novel. It is a coming of age, finding yourself and your self-image book. This particular story is so relatable to me because I have curly hair and for a long time I did not know how to manage it. I love how her immediate family helps her through her stuggles once they see how much it is upsetting her. They empower her instead of discourage her.
I can also relate to the bulling of being different in such a one lane world; where the ideal beauty type in unreachable. This book show a lot of truths that are sometimes hard to face or that might be hard to deal with. Like mean family members and/or just struggling because you don't "look" like everyone else. Growing up is hard enough without other people/kids making it harder.
I will read this book again and again anytime I am feeling down about myself or my self image. Highly recommend for all age groups.
