What I find amazing about this book is the fact that it is all narrated from the perspective of a little girl, meaning that it has dreams, there are adults in her life that harm and protect her, and also some kids that do the same.
I am amazed on how well the author and illustrator manage to create the perspective of a child so accurate, I actually felt the struggles she was going through, and I kept coming back to memories of my own childhood.
This book is powerful, it talks about acceptance, not just for oneself, but within a family, a community, and a culture. It kept talking about how people treat you differently because of your looks, which is extremely true nowadays. It talks about the power of word, the power of actions, of memories, and how it all affects our life, even when we are kids, and as adults we sometimes forget how damaging all these negative emotions affect a kid.
I was delighted with every single page of this book, and I am definitely recommending it and rereading it again.
Thank you.
