5 beautifully-illustrated, powerful stars for this graphic novel~
This graphic novel sends a strong and important message about body positivity and loving yourself the way you are. It has a focus on hair, in which everyone wants to have "good hair" rather than "bad hair" - good hair being straight and kept and bad hair being curly and/or frizzy. There is a strong cultural presence within, as having curly or wavy hair is very common within various ethnicities. Even in today's times, having curly or frizzy hair is still looked at in a negative way - there is social pressure to smooth, straighten, and chemically change certain hair types instead of letting it be natural. The illustrations are amazing and so detailed throughout. The characters have a lot of personality and really come to life on these pages.
I cannot wait to see more from this duo! I hope that this either already is a series or will become one.
