There are many things that BIPOC learn through living in the US, and one of them is definitely that the generations that came before us went through some very difficult things, but those ways are changing today and we can embrace our differences and individuality and proudly represent where we come from. I think the most moving quote from this book was "Sometimes, the things we learn aren't right, but they're ingrained in us... It doesn't make those things okay to believe, but it does take time to unlearn them and be better." I am a grown woman and I am still learning and unlearning things from my childhood that were ingrained into me. Haircare is definitely one of those things. Finding your natural self as beautiful is another. Also the whole "How come you're allowed to say terrible things about me and I'm supposed to just sit and take it and not be depressed" thing was common in my house growing up. There are so many important topics in this book, so much vibrant culture and beauty, and great tips for curly haired people! I loved the positive messages in this book and it just really hit home for me. Definitely would recommend!
