I enjoy reading YA although I am way past the demographic that these books are written for. Usually that is not a problem at all but I think, in this case, I would have enjoyed this book much better if I fit into the YA age demographic.
I loved reading about another culture and the expectations and traditions of families. I applauded Frank for trying to make his way as an American, not specifically a Korean-American. But I just didn’t connect with him or like him much. I usually enjoy a fake dating trope, this one was very predictable and although I liked the couple together, it still seemed superficial.
There was touching parts where Frank tries to connect with his father, but I found it hard to accept that there was such a language barrier with his own father.
I bet YAs and many adults love this. I liked it, but it fell a little short for me.
