I absolutely loved this book on so many layers. It was refreshing to read a book immersed in the Korean-American culture as that is something I don’t have a lot of experience with. The main character, Frank Li, is frankly amazing and was easy to relate to. Frank is struggling with figuring out if he will be who he wants to be or who his parents want him to be. His older sister was shunned when she brought home her African-American boyfriend and the pressure is beyond real for Frank to find a nice Korean girl to date. When the cute girl in his AP Calculus class asks to be his partner and starts to flirt he’s ecstatic. But she’s white and he can’t figure out how to either tell his parents or explain to her why he can’t tell his parents. Adolescent chaos and hilarity ensue but despite the abundance of laugh out loud moments this book tackles some tough issues and does it really well. I now can’t wait for David Yoon’s next book!
