It seems like the author tried to cram too much into the book... On one hand it helped keep it pretty interesting, but on the other, it made the book seem different than what the synopsis says. Frankly in Love follows Frank, who wants to date a white girl, which is against his strict Korean parents wishes, so he gets his Korean friend Joy to be his fake girlfriend. This plot only really covers the first third of the book, and I wish it would've been developed more, because I found it very interesting. Instead of the book being a happy go lucky style book, it actually handles some heavy subjects like racism and parental loss, and to a lesser extent gun violence and coming out to a friend. For a debut novel, Yoon didn't quite hit it out of the park, but has a lot of potential to be a great YA author.... and perhaps unpopular opinion, but I liked his book more than his wife's!
