I didn’t love this book, but I couldn’t bring myself to hate it. The fake-dating trope, while overused, is a classic for a reason. I did love the dynamic between Joy and Frank. However, I didn’t like that when trying to be with someone despite his parents, he got drawn in into the relationship they expected from him. Yes, he did want to be with Joy, but he hurt other people and drifted further away. Another thing I DID like was that eventually, he was still going against his parents. Rebellion is nowhere near necessary, but it does make a story more interesting. The conflict between Frank and Joy’s families seemed like it was a long time coming, not just an excuse to make things harder. I didn’t love this book, but it wasn’t bad.
