"Get in Quick,Get out Quicker" are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as Quadara's most skilled thief. Will this be enough for her as her race against time begins to find the assassin that is killing the continent's four queens.
What I liked: First the cover is amazing, it hooks you in right away and you want to read it! Astrid Scholte took elements from Disney magic and brought the characters to life in this book..I have cast Keralie with Carmen Bucandova because I picture sleek #selenakyle of Gotham fame in this character.Keralie is smart, and ready to go up against the world to survive and succeed. The book had mystery elements from Disney's earlier days like Return to Witch Mountain, not too scary for younger readers but enough action to satisfy #StarWars fans. Elements of science fiction were good touches with the mind control comm links that Keralie swallows. I won't give out spoilers but the twists and turns have you racing to the end of the book as Keralie and Varin are running out of time. Other touches Disney fans will enjoy is the hidden away future queen Arebella has costuming much like Bella from Beauty and the Beast but attitude and disposition like the wicked stepsisters from Cinderella. .in my mind I have Jojo Siwa cast in this , I am sure the author would agree! I love the attention to detail Ms Scholte gives to costuming, she is truly a very visual writer, and her book does play like a movie in your head.
What I didn't like: There were some slow parts in the book and a few places where it shifted from first person to third person tense that will throw off the reader. I would have liked more backstory for Varin, and to know more about him as the leading male, but like Disney movies the author doesn't let you know much about what the 'prince' is thinking , and as an Eonist who are programmed to not have feelings , the reader still wants to know he is more than a robot or cyborg. The ending was a bit predictable, and left you wanting to know more of Keralie and her future. THANK YOU BOOKISH FIRST and #penguinteen FOR MY ARC! A top pick of 2019 for YA readers!
