I was incredibly thankful to get my hands on an early copy of this
debut. I had heard nothing but amazing things, so I went into it with
high expectations. Spoiler alert: I loved it.

The world was somehow unique but familiar, and Keralie was a dynamic,
exciting heroine. I felt all of her emotions — the good and the bad —
and her journey throughout the story was well developed. The side
characters were flushed out and not just props, which is usually
lacking in most fantasy stories. The antagonist/s were cruel in a way
that was believable, and the story never branched off in unrealistic
ways. Valin is one of my new favorite characters, and his
condition/circumstances gives a voice to most who never see that kind
of representation.

One of the most enjoyable things for me while reading was the
timeline. I really enjoyed how the different perspectives joined
together during the last third of the novel. It was refreshing and
new, and it definitely sets Four Dead Queens apart from other Young
Adult titles. Having the different queens' points of view was
enthralling! I found myself speeding through to find out what would
happen to them, and the chapters in which they were the focus never
took me away from Keralie's plot.

Four Dead Queens finds a way to be a murder mystery set in a royal
fantasy world, and I loved the combination of genres. It worked
tremendously well, and kept the story fast paced. 10/10 would
recommend!
