Okay, so what a ride! From the get-go, Four Dead Queens promises an exciting adventure in a unique, new universe. An unapologetic thief and a stoic do-gooder team up as the story's leading characters who are inadvertently looped into mystery behind the murders of their nation's queens. You can imagine how easy it is to get hooked, right? Because it definitely is. The core mystery of this book definitely makes it a page turner, but there are so many world-building qualities of the story that also kept me reading. I absolutely loved the unique distinctions of each quadrant, especially Eonia. The tech that hails from this quadrant and its role in the story seems like something that could never work, but it was somehow seamless and fascinating all at once. I also really loved the four queens. In my opinion, these characters were the most intriguing of them all, each equipped with engrossing backstories that allow readers to easily grow attached.

While I really did love this story, I do feel like its spark began to diminish the closer the ending got. The main plot twist occurred out of thin-air, and rather than shock me, it felt like a slap not only in my face, but the brilliance that had preceded it. Everything that followed seemed to come out of left-field, a bit rushed and disorganized as the story quickly found its end. While such an ending tied up all loose ends, I do wish it had been drawn out further and given more time so as to create a truly satisfying conclusion.

Overall, I really enjoyed this gem! 3.75 Stars!
