Has potential
The style is descriptive and artistic. The magic system and world are intersting and mysterious. The characters seem likeable, although I struggle to understand why they don't think it's ridiculous that disaster was caused because a kid decided in his own head that he intended to tell a girl he had a crush on her. Even if the magic system somehow has consequences for them actually being together, the idea that even thinking about it could trigger disaster. So, I kind of struggle not to judge the characters' intelligence. However, the story has a lot of potential and I'd love to see a happily ever after. (Or a better explanation for the mystery, because the characters clearly have not deduced what's going on correctly - I would hope.) But, if I suspend my disbelief, I could definately enjoy this book if the pace picks up a bit.
