This book hits a little close to home, in the sense that I am a frequent user of social media on various platforms. This book made me pause and reframe my perspective on social media by showing what could happen (in a fictitious manner) when social media fame and notoriety is propped up as the ultimate goal. Within this story, the plot follows Orla and Floss as they seek fame and notoriety through a government appointed celebrity reality TV program. The world watches these celebrities 24 hours a day and their fame increases as they accrue more “followers”. The more followers they collect, the more sponsors they have and their plot lines become juicier. Overall, this was a fascinating spin on what could happen if social media continues to grow and is a beautiful self-reflection on what society truly values, likely we all just want other humans to connect with.
