Hard to believe this was a debut novel! Angelo writes a captivating dystopian sci-fi novel that moves back and forth between 2015 and 2051. Present day roommates, Orlo and Floss team up and we get a behind the scenes glimpse of how an influencer gets a lucky break to become 'famous.' The main character from the 2051 timeframe is a celebrity with 12 million followers and resides in the government-run compound while living on ad-supported camera 24/7. The themes are timely and relevant: our obsession with celebrity, influence, and status, how we get caught up with measuring our own value through likes, shares, and followers, even how the internet invades our privacy and controls what we see through algorithms and metrics. While its tone can be satirical, even jaded, about technology, it does show how important human connection and authenticity is. Bravo Megan!
