Followers is one of those books that grabs the reader as soon as the read page one. The fact that I cannot keep reading, is driving me crazy as I am hooked! Orla is a 28 year old blogger who lives in NYC and hopes that one day she can leave Lady-ish the blog that she writes for, and become the author that she knows she can be... but cannot seem to be, because every other screen in her apartment grabs her attention when she cannot finish a sentence. She lives in the living room of her shared apartment, with Florence, who answered a CraigsList ad. Florence wants to be famous and is trying to do whatever she can to get herself to be seen. When they run into each other at a red carpet event, for a line of dog clothes, Florence (or Floss as she is called by the publicist), as a guest and Orla as a writer covering the party for her boss, a plot is hatched to get them both what they want.
Fast forward 30+ years and you will meet Marlow, who also works in the world of social media, where she is "watched" by her huge fan base. Marlow wants to find a way to get off the crazy ship she finds herself on... one where the only time she gets to herself is 5 minutes in the bathroom and between 3 & 4 am. She is the star who helps watchers to know what pill to take to make them feel better. It is unclear from the only chapter in the first look if this is a pill that actually does anything or not. Either way, our first look at Marlow makes this reader want to know what else is going on in her world.
The cover is beautifully done and it draws you in with three faces one on top of the next. Perhaps a view of our three main characters. The colors draw the eye as well.
