Unexpected but not bad

To be honest, when I opened the myserious book-shaped package that arrived at my house last week, I was quite surprised to find this book. I must have missed the email about winning the giveaway, and while I've gotten enough giveaway books before to recognize what it was (thank you, Bookish First!), I was kinda confused. This book is definitely not my typical style. . . YA romance with fantasy elements is just not what I usually go for. But hey, it was free, and I was happy to try something new.
Not gonna lie, this book took a while to get into. The characters initially came across as kind of one-dimensional and cliche, and the plot, while creative in theory, felt somehow a little trope-y. But the dialogue was great, and as I read on, I found myself opening up to the characters. Sure, it was a little saccharine at some points, but overall, it was a cute, fun, clean YA romance with fun fantasy bits. Definitely glad I read it!
