So overall, this book was fine which is why I ended up at a 3/5. It had an interesting premise that was ultimately predictable but cute.

I liked the concept of fate and the overall timeline - I liked Nana’s story and her past. I also liked Ava’s sisters a decent amount but they felt like throwaways at times - especially Carmen.

But the main two characters, Ava and Rion didn’t feel very compatible. There wasn’t much chemistry between them and I honestly think it was the writing that made me feel that way. We didn’t formally meet Rion until over 90 pages into the story - which was waaaaay too long. I wanted a connection before that! So I had a problem with the romance aspect and I don’t think I’d read any more by this author because if that reason.

Also I didn’t understand the point of Achilles? He got zero screen time once Rion appeared and the entire book could have been done easily without his existence? It felt like they just wanted to throw in a twist at the beginning.

Also, I was very distracted by the random inclusion of Spanish words. Usually I can overlook some of it when it makes sense… but it truly felt like the author just threw the words in to “teach” us readers Spanish words. No one says “and soy your fairy madrina,” a five word sentence where two are Spanish and three are English and they’re all mixed… it took me out of the story when I fumbled over these instances. I liked when full Spanish sentences were included but the mixing was hard to read.

Overall, the book was fine but there are many other better books out there.
