There are a few really wonderful things about this book: the emphasis on family, the use of magical realism, the concept of fate, and a lot of cute flirting.

I really enjoyed the parts about Nana’s life and even wished there were more of these. Our two main characters are drawn together but there were a few times throughout the book that their comparability felt forced to me.

I will say this one was out of my normal reading genre, which was further cemented by the plot being really predictable. However, I still really enjoyed the romance, Magic, and family ties.

Cervantes’ writing style is gorgeous and draws you in from the beginning. This one was a very easy read meaning I could not put it down. I ended up finishing the book in one day because I was fully immersed in the story.

Lastly, I loved the inclusion of Spanish vocabulary throughout the book and thought this was a beautiful way to demonstrate the writer’s and the characters’ culture.
