A family is dealing with the recent loss of their magical matron, who's able to send a blessing to each female descendant. The youngest in the family, Ava, doesn't believe in such things, but she does rush in the middle of a storm to get to her dying grandmother. It turns out that her grandmother did give out her last blessing, not to Ava, but someone else: the guy she ran into on her way to see her grandmother. Now, Ava has to make things right or her grandmother (and possibly the rest of the family) may suffer from her mistake.

If you like Disney's Encanto, this book may be for you. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't sucked into the story. We get a glimpse at the family dynamic, but we don't see the bond between Ava and her grandmother for her to care about going to this blessing. (Sidenote: This feels like the modern-day version of Encanto.)

The cover is also whimsical and cartoony that promises rom-com drama and dealing with the afterlife while still alive.
