I loved Daunis' strong sense of family, in spite of their issues and flaws. Seeing the different bonds between her and her friends was also really great, so I appreciated the "found family," trope on display there as well.

But I felt like the cop romance plot was too cringe worthy for me to fully be on board with it. The fact that Daunis has a thing for cops with bad behavior (see TJ's character and those flashbacks) made me really frustrated with her. Like she hadn't learned her lesson with him and essentially got involved with the same type of guy with Jamie. It's a shame that that plot point was so prevalent because it really detracted from my experience in reading this story. I really thought the writing style was a nice mix of explaining the Ojiwbe way of life and customs while showing us the action of Daunis' story.

I really appreciated the author's ability and craft in writing this one, but I just don't think the storyline was one for me.
