First, let me say that this isn't my normal genre of book, but I loved it...

Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley was a phenomenal book. It has been on my TBR for such a long time, which truly is a shame because the book was so good.

I really liked the world building the author did. It was extremely educational learning so much about Native American culture, values and beliefs. It was also super helpful that there were some explanations of how to pronounce certain words as well as their meanings. The author did a great job of seamlessly weaving all of this into the story so it flowed nicely. I also liked that Native American traditions were a relevant part of the story instead of something merely touched upon and then abandoned later.

The characters and their backgrounds were amazing. The author did a fantastic job of explaining and illustrating the history of relationships as well as identifying the values of the different characters. No one was made to seem perfect and the flaws they had made them more human. Also, kudos for having an intelligent, strong female lead who represented the STEM field and was athletic. She held her own with the guys throughout the book, and she wasn't the only female character who did so.

The plot was thoroughly enjoyable. There were multiple mysteries to be solved throughout the story while the main plot was still being worked towards.
