This book (Firekeeper's Daughter) was a delight. As I often do, I went in totally blind, and while I knew it was a story centered around Native Americans, I actually thought this was going to be a fantasy. Spoilers, it most definitely is not.
I loved how it tackles some big issues and how the characters overcome and conquer them. My family is from Michigan (though not in any way of the Indigenous Peoples) and I've been to many of the settings of this book, whish was so cool for me. It was so comforting and delightful to see a story full of the lingo, places, and food of the Upper Peninsula. Everything rang true, and even though this book has been on my already read shelf for almost a year now, I still think about the impact it had. There is a lot of family drama, tragedy, finding your own way and your own strength, and having compassion for the people you love.
