Thank you Bookish First, author Angeline Boulley, and her publishing company for providing a copy of this book for me to review. I knew it was an interesting and unique story ever since reading the First Impression and since I received a copy, I saw this book has shown up on so many reading lists such as Reese's Book Club. I am so glad this book is getting the recognition it deserves!

The first thing that drawn me to this book was the fact that the protagonist was a Native American girl that loves her culture. This is the first book that I have ever read that involved Native American culture and I'm so glad this exists. I wouldn't have known anything about it otherwise. I would love to hear an audiobook version of this story so I could hear the native language the way it should sound (and not in my head using my own interpretation of the words). I felt like I learned a lot about Native American culture and yet it was probably only a glimpse into it. I wish there are more stories like this one where I can learn and be amazed by something new.

I can see how Native American culture shapes Daunis' personality, attitude, decisions, and values. Everything she does is true to herself and tightly connected to her culture. The community is also very supportive for all sorts of trauma, sadness, and grief but it's not a solution. It's disheartening to read the author's notes about how majority of Native American women experience violence, and Daunis was not exempt from this statistic. I want Daunis to get her blanket party but the story ended with her moving on. It's a more empowering and mature choice, but I want her to get her revenge!! Will there be a sequel where Daunis goes undercover for stopping domestic or sexual violence now that she successfully stopped the drug operation? I would read that!
