I had a reading slump for a while, but reading Firekeeper's Daughter was the book that got me out of it. I didn't claim a copy when it was originally on here, instead of buying my own copy, and it was a page-turner. Daunis was such a strong female character, and at the beginning, she feels an outsider of the tribe but by the end, you get the strong sense of community she feels which is one of my favorite aspects. I didn't expect the twists at all. I could not put this book down. The author gives great descriptions of Ojibwe cultures and traditions. I feel like the romance was subtle, and I liked how it ended with Daunis able to pursue her own path and Jamie as well. This book will definitely sit with me for a while, and I am happy to hear about the adaption that will be coming. Overall a great read by a debut author and I look forward to more of this author's work.
