I read Firekeeper's Daughter the second week of January and I think I have already found my favorite book of the year!

Firekeeper’s Daughter is split into 4 parts with 1 1/2 being more character-driven and 1 1/2 being more plot-driven (the 4th part reads similar to an epilogue). Because of this, I feel like this book is perfect for so many readers!

What stands out the most to me are the plot twists. This book had so many unexpected twists, and every single one made me think, “I should have seen that coming!” The plot was so well-thought-out that even when I was paying close attention and trying to predict what was going to happen, I still couldn’t do it. Rereading chapters and paragraphs showed that the author had set things up perfectly and I didn’t even catch it! I was blown away so many times!

The other thing that stood out to me is the Native American culture that is weaved throughout. Boulley brought awareness to the way Native Americans live and are treated today and it was so impactful. Be sure to read her author’s note at the end.
