I devoured this book like there was no tomorrow and at the end I wanted to read more about Daunis’ life beyond this adventure and mystery. I cried with her and loved learning about her culture and even language. Daunis starts the book by saying bad things happen in threes but she’s about to hit so many bad things I want to hug her. Daunis is just trying to start college, but quickly she’s forced to see the impact that methamphetamine is having on her tribe and her community. When approached by the FBI to help as an informant she is initially resistant but soon decides that she may be the right person to help her community and starts her own investigation. She is such a rich, strong, and beautiful character. This was an amazing debut novel and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future books by Angeline Boulley who writes about the tribe she is a part of. While the story may not be for everyone (as hard as I find that to believe because this story was great!) but everyone should take the opportunity to take a glimpse at a different culture and different way of seeing things. A beautiful opportunity and one that should not be missed.
