A Tale of Two Cultures With A Strong Native Voice

I love a book where you have a character you can identify with and also learn something about a culture you don't have anything in common with. The main character feels deeply about her Native American heritage on the island and understands the benefits of being part of her well off family on the mainland. As she straddles these two very different groups and dealing with grief over her grandmother's stroke and the death of her uncle, we also have to remember that she is a teen with important decisions about college looming over her. This seems like a story that will resonate with young adults and adults alike.
