This is the very first book I've ever read about dragons and needless to say, I was excited to read it. Add in the fact that it has a high rating on goodreads (at the time of reading. Not sure if it's changed now) and that I had heard so many good things about it.

Firebourne is written in first person and is told through two points of view, Annie and Lee. I really liked both characters. They were both driven and easy to root for, especially Annie. She has a lot of growth. She was very hesitant to go after things in the beginning and towards the end, found herself fighting for what she really wanted. As for Lee, he was torn between who he is (was) and who he wants to be. Both characters were the opposite of one another and complemented each other perfectly. I also really liked how their friendship came first before anything romantic happened, which is always a plus.

The best part of the book was the world building. It was intricate with so many moving parts. I really liked how much politics were evolved. It really brought into focus the way things function, from the ranking to the fleets and education. This book also doesn't shy away from the hardship and hard decisions that have been made from the revolution (this book starts post revolution).

The only thing was that I found it a little slow in the beginning. It did take me quite a bit to get into, but that could probably be from reading slump or how slow I found it at first. But once I got into it, I found myself enjoying it very much. I'd stop reading it and wonder what happens next only to pick it back up. I also expected the dragons to be more prominent at first, but found that it made sense how and when they came up. Overall, it was enjoyable, full of politics, action, and a ver slow burn friends to more romance.
