I was initially told this book was like Game of Thrones meets Red Rising, but in actuality its more like How to Train Your Dragon with the political unrest of Red Rising, which can't be accounted for, since most YA fantasy books feature political unrest and rebellions.

Anyway, Firborne by Rosaria Munda is a YA fantasy that follows the dual perspectives of Annie and Lee. Annie is your typical orphan that aspires to rise above her tragic backstory by becoming the best of the best of dragonriders. While Lee once belonged to an aristocratic family that got murdered in an uprising, leaving him an orphan as well. The two become fast friends as they reside in the same orphanage, and are forced to work together when members of an old society decide it's time for another rebellion.

Everything about this was great, just wish it didn't go on as long as it did.
