Firebourne is about a young woman who isn’t first class born but has the ability to connect with dragons. While dragons are featured heavily, this is also a book about how a nation is dealing with civil unrest and the complexity of of the different class tiers and the aftermath. There is also the romance between the two main characters, Lee and Crissa.
I was torn reading this book. The way that this country dealt with their revolution, and the testing to figure out who would get sent to what work area, seemed not to fit with some of their ideals. Also, the love story between Lee and Crissa was at times, frustrating, especially at the end. Overall, I did enjoy the read, and will look forward to reading the second book, and hoping that some of my issues with the ending, will be resolved.
Lastly, I thought Firebourne was very well written and at times, was surprised it was marketed for YA-the author is a great writer.
