I had never heard of Erin French or The Lost Kitchen before seeing this book offered on BookishFirst. But I like food, I like cooking memoirs, and the big bouquet of poppies drew my eye! Though not sure what it has to do with anything regarding the contents. But it is pretty! The only thing that could've been added to this book were some recipes! Because I also like cookbooks.

I liked that she's from Maine, being a neighbor of Maine, in New Hampshire. I have never been to Belfast though. Her family bought a diner when she was young and she grew up around food, cooking, and serving her whole childhood. She was either going to run at it or run away from it. She did try to run away from it but a unplanned pregnancy brought her back home. Her father was not a nice man but when French showed a passion for cooking, they bonded in this one commonality.

I was appalled by Tom and her relationship with him. Thank goodness he had a vasectomy. They did not need to add any more children to that mess. Luckily, Jaim turned out well, French making sure she didn't make the same absent parent mistakes her father made. She did make the best of a lot of bad situations and she struggled a lot. But she found her dream and made it come true, no matter the obstacle. She's tenacious. I would love to check out The Lost Kitchen but it's definitely outside of my price range. haha.
