This was an extraordinary memoir. Detailing her childhood in a diner, her pregnancy, her addiction, and of course, her food, author Erin French doesn’t shy away from the many hard topics and relationships in her life. In these difficult moments I felt so connected to her and to everything she has overcome. I found this incredibly compelling and enjoyable to read. I loved the detailed descriptions of the food and the inspirations behind the dishes. I liked that the author dove into the stories behind all of her employees, especially her mother. The only thing I didn’t love was when some of the stories “flashbacked” to previously in her life, then back to the present. I took me out of the story as it slowed the pace, but by no means were those stories bad. All in all, I found this to be incredibly well written and thought out. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in learning more about Erin or the Lost Kitchen or who wants to read an inspiring story.
