I had never heard of Erin French or The Lost Kitchen prior to this, so this was my first exposure to Erin and her work. Finding Freedom: A Cook's Story Remaking a Life From Scratch is a memoir about Erin's life - growing up working in a diner with an alcoholic father, getting pregnant halfway through college, falling in love and falling out of it - and of surviving through difficult times in order to thrive in better ones. While I don't normally read much nonfiction or many memoirs, I blazed through this in a few days because I was caught up in her story and wanted to find out what happened next. She speaks of her life plainly and honestly, often explaining why she made the choices she did or why she believes those in her life reacted or acted in certain ways. Erin is clearly a strong person from what she went through, and very much enjoyed learning about her.
