Abu Laith is a local man who helps take care of animals for a zoo owner who could care less about the welfare of animals. To the point that he even bottle-fed a lion cub. Then ISIS comes and invades his city and his zoo. His entire world is turned upside down but he doesn’t turn his back on the animals. ⠀

There a part of this book that are guaranteed to make you tear up. And some points are really hard to read, but it’s war. I love to getting a unique and inside perspective of the Iraq war that I didn’t have before. ⠀

People often say that nonfiction is dense or hard to read this book is nothing like that. Author Louise Callahan does an amazing job of making this non-fiction story read like a fiction book. â €

This book is all around five stars! Five stars for the story and the bravery of these people. Five stars for the writing style. And of course, five stars for the gorgeous cover. â €
