Amazingly good
This beautifully written book follows four men from four different generations of the same Filipino family. Beginning in 1930 when Francisco emigrates to the United States and ending with Enzo during the pandemic, we follow these four men as they make their way in the US. A book with many themes including generational conflict, family ties, life as an immigrant, bias, finding ones self, and making peace with that self. The book is character driven. I found myself immersed in the writing and in getting to know each man and his relationship with those who came before and after him. It was lovely to get this level of depth instead of being pushed through by action-driven writing. It gave me a better understanding of the immigrant experience, something that seems particularly important given all the rhetoric surrounding immigration. The cover art is lovely, too.
