I was really looking forward to reading this book after reading the synopsis. With all the buzz surrounding it, it was high on my most anticipated list. I ended up really let down. There are a lot of different plots going on, which take forever to tie together. There seemed to be a lot of random things happen that felt more like filler than anything. For example, I did not understand the random tornado during a funeral that added nothing to the plot at all. The bits and pieces of the true crime documentary at the end of some chapters didn’t fit well. But the absolute worst part of this book was the Mexico stereotypes. The author portrayed Mexico as a disparaged drug ridden lawless country filled with Mexicans who are nothing but criminals. It was very offensive. The only redeemable quality to this book was that it was fast paced. I read through it pretty quick.
