Every Last Fear is a gripping book filled with twists and turns. I couldn’t stop listening because I needed to know how this mystery would end!

Every Last Fear would have been a five-star book for me; however, I could not overlook the inappropriate derogatory language and stereotypes toward the BIPOC characters in this book. They were unnecessary and did not add to the main plot. The racist scene at the bar was the most upsetting. It was derogatory to hear the multiple references to “The Mexicans” instead of the Mexican government authorities. The main character’s best friend Ganesh seemed like the “token BIPOC character” of the book. I was confused when Ganesh was explained as the rich college kid from Mumbai, but he preferred to “slum” it in New York and was obsessed with Fox News and supported “building the wall.” I turned my head when I heard that because it just did seem possible for an immigrant to support “the wall,” but I could be wrong.

Overall the mystery thriller part of the book was significant! I understand this was the author’s debut novel, so I hope his next book with be written and edited better to remove unnecessary insulting stereotypes to the BIPOC community.
