Fast paced but one-dimensional

This was a fun book that was extremely fast-paced and far from boring. It definitely had me guessing throughout the entire book, but I feel that there were elements that were unrealistic. The way the FBI agents behaved and how they approached the family’s death was eye-roll-worthy, and the way they handled Matt and his trip to Mexico was just ridiculous. The characters were pretty one-dimensional; Maggie’s character was pretty unrealistic because I doubt she’d be solving mysteries at her age like she did in the book. I did like the documentary-style inserts throughout the book, which offered something unique. To be honest, however, the ending was forgettable; I read it two months ago and I can’t really remember exactly how it ended. All I remember is Matt’s weird, short-lived trip to Mexico. I guess I’m kind of torn on this one, hence the three stars.
