Another book that I wanted to win but thankfully was able to borrow from my local library. Immediately after reading the summary of this book I was reminded of the Sharp family from Iowa. Kevin, Amy, Sterling and Adrianna Sharp were found dead in 2018 while on vacation in Tulum, Mexico. News articles reported that they died from carbon monoxide poisoning. I wondered if this was the authors inspiration for the book.
Matt Pines family has had a tragic accident in Mexico. He finds out about it after a night of partying with his college friends. Matt’s only living family now is his brother, Danny, who is in jail for the murder of his high school girlfriend, Charlotte Rose. There was a documentary made over Danny’s potential innocence that was produced on Netflix. The documentary, “a violent nature“, destroyed the pine family and made everyone aware of Danny’s potential crime. The Pine family was forced to move from their hometown and to reestablish their new life in hopes of getting away from Danny’s crimes. Danny’s father has never given up on his son being innocent. After the murder of the rest of the Pine family, Matt starts to wonder if their murder could be related to Danny’s case.
I enjoyed the characters and the mystery of this book. It was well written and kept me on my toes wondering who the killer was and how it was all connected to the murder Danny was accused of committing. Great summer thriller!
