Matt Pine has always been in the shadow of his older brother, Danny Pine. Danny was a celebrated football player until the murder of his girlfriend, Charlotte, landed him in jail. Danny claims he didn’t do it. Now years later, after a true crime documentary and a failed appeal in front of the Supreme Court, Matt Pine’s family is found dead in Tulum, Mexico from an apparent gas leak. The FBI gets involved and what follows is a string of twists and turns to discover the truth about what happened to the Pine family and whether Danny has been telling the truth all along.

Told from a variety of perspectives and two different timelines, this story grips you right from the beginning. It took a few chapters to grasp the changing between the before timeline (the events leading up to the Pines arrival and death in Tulum) and the after timeline (Matt notified about the death of his family and trying to figure out why). Once I did, I could not put this book down! Also, the ending was unexpected and I don’t think the book dropped many hints, if any, about how it would wrap up.

Highly recommend to anyone in search of a thriller/mystery.
