The cover is absolutely stunning in a simplistic way that draws your attention. You know immediately it is thriller and mystery that has multiple characters involved in the plot.
The story opens up with the Pines family (mom, dad, sister and little brother) all dead on vacation. This opening truly sets the pace quickly and you want to know what happened. Then the plot gets bigger with the introduction of Matt pine, the brother who survived and is in college who didn't go on the trip. He is left to deal with the aftermath and figure out what happened with the help of the FBI. It gets even bigger with the introduction of Danny, the oldest son who is in jail for murdering his girlfriend.
I sped through this First Impression wanting to know what happened to the Pines, how the murder of Charlotte ties in with this, why the Mexican police think it was an accident but the FBI and State Department doesn't, why did the mom, brother and sister die one way and the father differently, who did it, what was the motive, etc.
I definitely want to keep reading and figure it all out ... I feel like it would keep me guessing. I also enjoy books with multiple POV and the added excerpts from the Charlotte murder trial are an added twist I enjoy.
