When I was around 10, I discovered science fiction. Stories of flying through space, visiting other worlds, studying other radically different cultures and creatures and having all sorts of adventures hit a cord deep inside me. I wanted to be a space adventurer myself. I had dropped out of college and joined the Army when we landed on the moon. By that time I had gotten over my disappointment that the forces in charge refused to let women be astronauts. But I did hope to visit my grandchildren on Mars. Now I can hope my great-grandchildren can settle Mars. If the efforts of current astronauts can show how we can do that, I want to know about it.
