I've read some of Khoury's other novels - including The Last Templar - but I think this sneak peek is the best of his works that I've ever read. I love the idea of changing history in such an extreme way. I've never read a novel that changes history so far in the past and it was amazing to try and figure out which moment would be the catalyst for change - and when it came, it cemented the idea that this is the change one person desires, not a concocted plan that has multiple players. Now I want to know what Ayman Rasheed's reasons were for helping The Sultan, why he decided to travel to Paris in the future, and most importantly, what he found in that cave in Palmyra.

This novel also sets up the chance for a wonderful exploration of Ottoman culture - something that I think most people don't know a lot about - while doing it in a way that does not denigrate anyone. The summary also mentions The Christian Republic of America - and I want to see how Khoury characterizes the Republic and how different it is from modern-day - extremely Christian - America.
