This is such a strange book. I really wish I had a better word to describe it but that's all I have after immediately finishing it. I don't read much of this genre – literary fiction? speculative fiction? – so maybe I didn't properly understand it, but I left with only some of my questions answered and many more I want to ask the author about.

Though maybe that's the point? That I have all these questions and I'm picking through the narrative in my mind trying to answer them?

I wasn't sure about this book because I don't love reading about motherhood and pregnancy. I was surprised to find, however, that I didn't mind it as much as I thought I would when reading this, though it's definitely something to keep in mind because it's central to the narrative.

My favorite part of this book was the author's writing style and lush imagery. I read it in one sitting and was instantly transported to the world that she'd created. I could see the houses and streets described on the page clearly in my mind. I also thought the juxtaposition between the descriptions of the town at the beginning versus the end were particularly striking.

This is also one of those books that you're going to want to read again after the big reveal toward the end. (Which, when I figured out the plot twist a page before it happened, I was quite proud of myself). Though I have no immediate plans of re-reading (I have to work through my thoughts on it first), I wonder how my views on the beginning of the novel will change.

Overall, I wish I had a more cohesive review. I'm not sure how I feel about this novel but it certainly left me with more questions than answers. If that's the type of book you like reading and the premise sounds interesting, then I would recommend this book.
