This has got to be one of the the strangest books I have ever read! I also read Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin which I enjoyed even though I was in the minority.

The writing for Elsewhere is absolutely beautiful. It is about a small town near mountains where it is year-round damp and cloudy. The town is filled with tradition. It is also a town that has an affliction. Girls get married, have children and occasionally some completely vanish. You never know who it will be, when it will happen and most importantly why. There is always talk and speculation after the fact.

Vera gets married and becomes a mother. She knows her time is near and now a decision needs to be made. What kind of life will she choose to save herself and her child.

The story is about motherhood, choices and venturing beyond the safety of the world you know. This story captivated me and if you are looking for something totally different give this one a try!
