I received a copy of Echoes Between Us through a Bookish First giveaway. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

Veronica's life is complicated, as she struggles with a benign brain tumor that causes her to have blinding migraines. Her mother died from the malignant form of the same tumor, but her presence has never been more real to Veronica. Convinced in the existence of ghosts, especially her mother's, will Veronica ignore the signs that not everything is normal?

Sawyer is hiding major secrets of his own, revolving around his mom and his own need to seek a high. When Sawyer, his mom, and his sister move into the first floor apartment in Veronica's house, will the two classmates end up becoming more than just strangers?

I would rate this book at 3 1/2 stars, if the current system would allow. Although I did like the character development, the story was a bit lacking at times. I did appreciate that the author was upfront about Veronica's illness, but the cliché twist at the end ruined the story for me. With regards to the supernatural aspects of the book, the side plot (school project) was not all that necessary. It would have been enough to query the existence of ghosts through Veronica's eyes without involving other side plots in the process. As far as Sawyer's problems go, I did not buy the story that no one knew what was going on with his mother. Her friends had to have some clue and it did not seem realistic that no one brought up the subject with Sawyer, at the very least.

Overall, I liked Echoes Between Us. Readers who like YA romance and realistic fiction will find aspects of Veronica and Sawyer's stories relatable.
