I first clicked on Echoes Between Us by Katie McGarry because let's be honest here--that cover is stunning. I'm not normally one for contemporary YA, but the inclusion of a girl seeing ghosts and suffering killer migraines because of it contributed to my opening this First Look.

"The only reason people come to live in this small town is to hide or to die. [...] My father, on the other hand, uprooted me from our suburban, cushy, lower-middle-class, chocolate-chip smelling home when I turned eleven for me to die."

I was immediately sucked in after reading these first sentences. What does she mean, her father brought her to the town to die? I'm intrigued.

I love that the novel opens to Veronica and her friends hanging out at an abandoned hospital. I love that they're misfits. I love that Veronica is stressed for her senior year of high school because her friends have already graduated/are moving on. That particular problem was something that I felt I could relate to. I'm curious to learn more about her friends, and I hope they have a consistent presence throughout the novel despite being elsewhere. I want to know what makes these teens misfits.

Based on the fact that the chapter title was "Veronica," I'm assuming the novel will be written from multiple POVs. I'm ready to read Sawyer's and get in his head next.
