The main character Veronica is definitely interesting as she is quirky and on one side of the fence, but her friends Leo and Nazareth can straddle either side. Veronica suffers pain daily and migraines, but she goes along as if nothing is wrong. In her small town, a newcomer, Sawyer is personable and everyone wants to be around him except Leo and Nazareth and they warn Veronica to stay away from him. Sawyer for whatever reason shuns Veronica and she knows of no reason why. Intrigued enough to find out more.
