This book reminded me of the early 2010 YA novels. It centers around V, a "quirky" teenager and her ability to see ghosts, which isn't even discussed in the excerpt. V felt very two dimensional; she was not someone I felt that I could connect with. The problems that were discussed in the excerpt, the most popular boy in school is now renting out part of her house and that she is in love with her best friend. The end of the excerpt did hint to larger conflicts, of course with the fact that she can see her mother's ghost and being alone for senior year. I do feel for V but I wish that her character and story were explained deeper.
