Draw and Paint Super Cute Animals is a fun book that I used in one of my homeschooling art classes with my kids. However, this book is not a step by step demonstration book when it comes to pencil drawing. This is a trace on tracing paper and color in book or paint. (shading in)
The Good points about this book. The illustrations are beautiful and myself, as well as, my children enjoyed looking at all the pictures in the book. I also liked how the book contained a variety of different nature scenes, as well as, cute animals. My kids enjoyed the instructions on shading, how to make fur look realistic. As well as some of the painting instruction.
The Not so Good about this book and the reason for the 2 star rating of just ok. This is not a beginner book of step by step instructions (title is confusing). The directions call for tracing each animal on tracing paper, not a how to draw them. Also this is for the advanced artist when the author wants you to use items like bristol board, and lots of other art supplies that are advanced. I was thinking I could just get out some pencils, art paper, and watercolors with brushes and we could get started. Nope, there is a lot more to it.
Overall, my children were a little frustrated on drawing the animals, as they are not shown how to step by step. I feel this is a good book for adults and lacks the appeal to children. I don't know how many adults would like to draw super cute animals? So for myself and my family this book had some good points but overall just ok. We will use it for shading instruction but not for how to draw in pencil.
